James Cagney entered the world on July 17, 1899 in New York City. He epitomized the urban tough guy gangster in Warner Bros. movies of the 1930's. In real life he was a song and dance man at heart, winning his only Oscar for portraying George M. Cohan in Yankee Doodle Dandy. Cagney appeared in more than 60 movies in a career that spanned half a century. He died March 30, 1986 a few months shy of his 87th birthday.
