Humphrey DeForest Bogart was born to a wealthy family in New York City on Christmas day, 1899. After playing dozens of second tier villains and supporting characters throughout the 1930s, he eventually achieved superstardom. Movies like The Maltese Falcon, To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep made him the quintessential Film Noir hero. His unique lisp made him one of the most imitated of all stars. As Rick Blaine in Casablanca he achieved screen immortality. Bogie won his only Oscar opposite Katharine Hepburn in The African Queen. Humphrey Bogart died on January 14, 1957 in California.
