I think it just means there's something of the Swimmer in all of us.

You mean everyone has gotten drunk, and then into a car accident, causing someone to get seriously hurt, resulting in the loss of our jobs, forcing us to borrow money from the neighbors to use on more alcohol instead of paying our bills, while having an affair with the woman down the street?

I think we've all been there
