You can tell the sheriff is a liberal by the way he is offended by Rambo having the flag on his jacket. Conservatives are proud of patriotism while liberals are embarassed by it.

Actually, the way I took it was that the Sheriff was offended by Rambo wearing the flag because he thought it being worn by a vagrant was disrespectful.
And liberals are notoriously charitable towards homeless people, which the Sheriff clearly isn't. Plus Washington state outside of Seattle is notorious for being conservative.

Contrary to media propaganda, Red states (Republican) give more to charity than Blue (Democrat).

Considering the war had ended a few years earlier and with him wearing a military jacket, it would be clear to a policeman that he was a vet. And we all know Liberals are scared of the military, so I stand by my opinion.

I don't want this to turn into a Con vs Lib argument. I wasn't trying to say, the sheriff is a dick, so he must be a conservative. But I think this discussion just goes to show that the sheriff isn't very clearly defined as a person.

That stat about Republicans donating more is fairly well known. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that people tend to become more conservative as they get older and older people tend to have more money. In non-profit organizations, it's well known that young people donate their time and older people donate their money.

I agree, the sheriff is vague. Your probably also right about the charity and age. Older conservatives donate money while older liberals support tax hikes in the name of donating money. Conservative christian youths travel the country helping to build schools in poor areas. Liberals youths volunteer to protest anything conservative that their professor tells them to.

And christian youths protest anything the bible and their pastor tells them to protest. http://blog.nj.com/centraljersey_impact/2008/10/large_kids.JPG

Duh!

So then the film would have worked better had the sheriff's politics been better defined?

He needed more depth of some kind.

The sheriff is definitely conservative. He thinks Rambo is a long haired hippy pacifist wearing the flag on his jacket ironically. Notice how surprised he is to find out Rambo is a war hero and in his denial thinks he can "take" Rambo.

Patrick, you reviewed this on Stallone's 65th birthday. Did you do that on purpose or was it just a coincidence?

Coincidence, Cool though!
