Fitgerald's story was short. Eric's observation re the time period valid. One more point: Charlie doesn't get his daughter back in Fitzgerald. I think it works either way, but Richard Brooks does not do delicate all that well. He did Elmer Gantry well, and The Professionals. Elmer probably better than Sinclair Lewis, but then Lewis is not Fitzgerald.

I haven't read the Fitzgerald story although I am a fan of his novels. Scott is the big Fitzgerald fan of the three of us and has read the short story. I haven't yet seen Elmer Gantry although I'm familiar with a few scenes.
