There was a made for television remake/sequel, The Birds II: Land's End (1994). Tippi Hedren even appears in it.

I never saw it, but I know it got horrible reviews. Did you know Tippi is Melanie Griffith's mom?

I knew that. Scott you didn't mention the great scene when the gasoline ignites at the gas station and we see the chaos from the bird's eye view. It is a great shot.

According to Daphne Du Maurier, who wrote the short story, she didn't want to explain why the birds attacked because sometimes things happen for no reason (which sounds like a major cop out to me).
One interesting thing from the short story that they didn't include in the movie is that in the story, the way the birds attack in waves is based on the tides. They become aggressive when the tides come in and calm down when they go out, which is at least suggestive of a possible reason.

That would have helped.

the second review was awfuly judgemental. the movie isnt as bad as he makes it out to be, Scott did a much better and more netural review of the movie itself. Eric, although does point out that, like all other horror flims- the characteres are very stupid and dont do the logical thing. The movie is pretty dated- but at some scenes it does "get you." Scott also warns you that if youre not one for gore- the one scene in the movie when mitch's mom finds the corpse could be very distirbing.

Of course I am judgemental. I am a critic.
