A crime that doesn't hurt others is more acceptable than one that does.

So it is okay to steal $100 from a millionaire but not from someone living on minimum wage?
#2 - Eric - 02/13/2012 - 06:38
No, both those crimes would hurt another, just to varying degrees.

Are you insinuating that illegal aliens do not hurt others?
#4 - Eric - 02/13/2012 - 06:59
I'm sure some do. There's good and bad in any large group of people.

Eric, you fail to acknowledge that some laws are unjust. A slave that ran away from his owner was breaking the law of the land and it wasn't until 2000 that Alabama removed miscegenation from its list of criminal offenses. A poor citizen of Mexico could rationalize that the law keeping him out of the US is unjust since it isn't applied equally to everyone. If you have money you can easily buy your way "legally" into this country.

That's a slippery slope though Patrick. Members of NAMBLA would call the laws that keep them from practicing what they preach as unjust laws. Addicts of illegal drugs will also claim the laws are unjust. Unjust laws are still laws and don't give you the right to break them, only to work to have them changed.

In most cases I agree with you. A slave, however, had every right to run away from captivity to seek freedom.

Not if you live on Tattoine. Even the Jedi recognized slave ownership as a legitimate law.

I take it you just saw Phantom Menace in 3-D? Did your sons enjoy it?

Kyle still laughed at Jar Jar.
