Anthony Hopkin's character from Psycho is not shown as gay. Many transvestites are heterosexual.

Oh come on! Any guy who dresses as a woman and has a huge mother complex has got to be a pillow biter.

And of course Perkins was married and had a child....which proves little I know.

I believe to characterize Norman Bates, in "Phycho", as a transvestite is a stretch. A deeply disturbed individual, yes, but a penchant for wearing women's clothing wasn't the source of his psychosis. Also, the Norman Bates character was played by Anthony Perkins, not Anthony Hopkins. Personally, I'm glad to see homosexual and bisexual characters and storylines beginning to seem less "tragic". I did say "beginning", remember.

if perkins was a gay man in the first film, the remake sure seems to conflict considering the new bates "bating" in the pre-murder shower scene. at least that's what i seem to recall him doing but it was a while back that i saw the newest version. can anyone clarify?

Very interesting topic, the ironic thing is that statistically most transvestites are heterosexual, so I guess gay men can like transvestites but they're not likely to find one.
