Since the dawn of cinema audiences have fallen in love (or sometimes just lust) with those faces on the silver screen. We've all fantasized, imagined and dreamed about the stars of Hollywood, but more often than not we're really imagining the stars as they were in a particular movie, as a particular character and not as the stars themselves. In real life, they might be drunken harpies or rude bastards, but onscreen they can play the heroine, the ingenue, the vamp, the prince or the scoundrel, becoming the idol of millions in the process.
At some time or another, we all play the game, "Which stars would you sleep with?" Friends even based an entire episode around the concept. Since, as I said, generally it's the character and not the star we're really attracted to, we here at ThreeMovieBuffs.com decided to give our lists a twist. We chose not just the star, but the star as a particular character in a specific film. This adds a different level to the game because where there are some stars you might not be attracted to, maybe they've done one role in which you thought they were hot. Carrie Fisher, for example, isn't someone normally thought of as a sex symbol, but how many men of a certain age lusted after her in the gold bikini from Return of the Jedi?
Here then are each of the three movie buffs' top five picks for the movie characters we're most attracted to.
Eric's Picks:
Marilyn Monroe in Bus Stop. Her hillbilly attitude would possibly get annoying after awhile, but Monroe never played a more approachable character.
Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. Spending a day with her wide eyed excitement, would make for a great day of touring the city and no matter how romantic that night got, I would not have to worry about a commitment.
Kathleen Turner's author in Romancing the Stone. When those amazing legs were not wrapped around me, we could have some great conversations.
Barbara Carrera as Fatima Blush in Never Say Never Again could satisfy my being dominated fantasy.
Rita Hayworth in Gilda. All of her anger and devious flirting could translate into some serious passion in bed.
Patrick's Picks:
Dwayne Johnson as Elliot Wilhelm in Be Cool. He's tough and buffed but also a sensitive gay man. He could guard my body anytime.
Marlon Brando as Stanley Kowalski. Sure he's an ignorant brute with the table manners of an intoxicated goat but I wouldn't mind showing him my Napoleonic Code.
Paul Newman as Brick Pollitt in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. After a few hours with me he would no longer be confused about his sexuality.
Sidney Poitier as Kimani Wa Karanja in Something of Value. He plays Rock Hudson's special childhood friend in Kenya. He looks damn good with his shirt off in a scene where Hudson carries him on his back.
Sal Mineo as Plato in Rebel Without a Cause. Everyone fawns all over James Dean but Mineo's tragic teen Plato has the dreamiest eyes ever in a movie. With him I want to share a milkshake and hold hands.
Scott's Pick:
Penelope Cruz as Maria Elena in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Drop dead gorgeous, oh so passionate and emotionally wounded. Sure, a relationship might be hell and possibly life-threatening, but it would never be boring and the sex would be hot, hot, hot.
Jennifer Connelly as Jenny in The Rocketeer. This was Connelly at her most curvacious beauty. It would be a blast to take her to the South Seas Club and I would definitely "drink of her lips as deeply".
Maureen O'Sullivan as Jane in Tarzan and His Mate. A true free spirit, she was young, hot and always up for a naked swim or making out in a tree.
Helena Bonham Carter as Helen Schlegel in Howards End. So posh, so beautiful and such a young idealistic romantic. She's also not above having sex with a man below her on the social ladder to prove a point.
Kate Winslet as Clementine Kruczynski in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Free spirited, fun, and never boring in the hair color department. She's someone you would have a hard time forgetting.
So there's our picks. It wasn't easy picking just five and certainly there are others that could have made our lists and in the coming years there may be characters and performances that push some of these out of the top five. That's the beauty of these lists, they're not carved in stone, but are eternally evolving as stars and tastes change.
